Jack Hamilton Wheeler, our precious son and brother, lost his life due to a drunk driver on December 22, 2019.
His life was just beginning. Jack was a Senior at Creekside High School. He maintained a 4.3 GPA, was an athlete, scholar and great friend to many. He had plans to attend either FSU or UCF. If you ask anyone, kid or adult, Jack was known to be outgoing, kind, respectful, compassionate, and loving of his family, friends and his life. He had so much yet to accomplish. He had so much more love to give and receive. He had dreams. Not long before he left us, he shared with us that he was considering being a nurse. It pains us greatly not to be able to see Jack achieve all of the success and happiness he deserved and was headed towards.
Our family was shattered by his sudden, unexpected passing, and we are committed to keeping his memory and legacy alive. We’ve established The Jack Hamilton Wheeler Memorial Scholarship Fund to help St. John’s County students that are aspiring to further their education. We know how happy it would make him to know we are helping kids in his own community to achieve their educational goals.
We thank all of our family, friends, community and everyone who has and continues to lift and carry us through this difficult journey. We will continue to Live Like Jack. We will be kind, help others and love big, just like he did.
The Jack Wheeler Foundation exists to honor Jack’s memory and legacy by inspiring St. Johns County students to chase their academic dreams, to keep his name alive by sharing his story, advocating against drunk driving, and reminding people to always wear a seatbelt.
Jack was always passionate about his academics and planned to attend the University of Central Florida upon graduating from Creekside High School. The goal of the Jack Wheeler Foundation is to provide financial assistance to graduating St. Johns County seniors pursuing their goals of higher education.
Since its inception in the spring of 2020, the Jack Wheeler Foundation has awarded over $52,000 in scholarships to Saint Johns County high school seniors to assist with college expenses.
